Simple Bread Rolls
This simple bread rolls recipe will give you nine soft and delicious bread rolls suitable for dinner, soup, or delicious snacks.
Makes: 9 rolls
  • 500 g (18 oz) strong white flour
  • 300 g (10 fl oz) lukewarm water
  • 2 tbsp melted butter (25 g/1 oz)
  • 1½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp dried yeast
  1. Add the yeast to the water, stir and leave for 10 minutes for the yeast to activate.
  2. Add the flour and salt into a large bowl. Mix well. Make a well in the centre and add the yeast/water and the butter. Mix to a slightly tacky dough.
  3. Turn the dough out and knead for 10 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  4. Cover and leave in a warm place until the dough has about doubled in size.
  5. Turn the dough out, knock it back and knead for a further 5 minutes.
  6. Divide the dough into 9 equal pieces. Flour your hands and make each piece of dough into a ball.
  7. For each piece of dough, place the ball of dough on a lightly floured surface. Fold the edges of the dough to the centre, turning the dough as you go. Turn the dough over and put to one side.
  8. Once all the balls of dough have been processed, clean any flour off the surface and rub the surface with kitchen paper which has a little oil on it.
  9. Take each piece of dough, cup your hand over it and roll the dough around to achieve a nice smooth sphere of dough. Place on a lightly-greased baking tray.
  10. Place the tray in a large plastic bag and leave to prove for 30-40 minutes.
  11. Bake at 190°C/380°F fan oven, 210°C/410°F for about 15 minutes.
  12. Place on a wire rack to cool.
These rolls freeze well so you can just use them as and when you fancy!
